Hulhumale Island - The Maldives' Modern City on the Water

Connected directly to Male city by the Sinamalé Bridge and to Velana International Airport by a causeway, Hulhumale is unlike any other island in the Maldives. The island now spans 4 square kilometres across two developed phases - Phase 1, the original lower-density residential district opened in 2004, and Phase 2, the higher-density modern city extension launched in 2015, connected to Phase 1 by four bridges and rising with apartment towers, wide roads, and a new urban skyline. Phase 3, an additional 63 hectares of reclaimed land, is actively under development and continuing to expand the island's footprint into the Indian Ocean.

There is no boat, no sea crossing, and no transfer required. For travellers transiting through Male or staying close to the airport, Hulhumale is within minutes.

Hulhumale Beach is the island's centrepiece leisure space - a long stretch of white sand protected by a reef approximately 70 metres from shore. The shallow inner waters are calm and safe for all ages, and the reef is close enough to snorkel from the shore. Getting to Hulhumale

Hulhumale is connected by road to Male city via the Sinamalé Bridge and to Velana International Airport via a causeway on Hulhule Island. From the airport arrivals hall, the road leads directly across the causeway and onto the Hulhumale highway - no boat required. Public buses run between Male, the airport, and Hulhumale at regular intervals at very low cost. Taxis are available from the airport and ferry terminal. For visitors arriving by sea from other islands, speedboats and public ferries dock at the Hulhumale Ferry Terminal with connections to Male and destinations across Kaafu Atoll.
